Physical Work

This is a collection of physical sewing projects I've created since October 2021 in reverse chronological order. This list is not exhaustive, as I began sewing at the age of 10. My introduction to this medium was through my grandmother, Nini, an artist and designer. I learned to sew when she and my Grandfather visited during December of 2010. That Christmas, I was given my very own sewing machine and I spent my winter break learning how to sew, completely in Spanish, from Nini. With a great amount of her help I completed my very first project: a hoodie. From then on I played with sewing on my own, creating garments and costumes with variable levels of success. Every time my Grandmother and I would see each other, in the States or Guatemala, I would soak up as much knowledge as possible during our brief moments together. Of course, the projects I made with her guidance were leaps and bounds better than those I created on my own, at least until I turned 18. Everything really clicked for me in the Fall of 2021. I had just graduated high school and I received two amazing tools, fundamental to my improvement as a designer. One, a shiny new sewing machine from my Grandma Miller as a graduation present and two, the courage to seek treatment for my attention span issues. I sat down at my sewing machine, as I'd done so many times before, now with the dedication to research and plan my project ahead of starting, make a muslin mockup, take time with every seam and most importantly, actually use an iron. As a result, I made "Lady Underthings" the first look created entirely on my own that I was truly proud of. "Lady Underthings" gave me the confidence in my choice to pursue apparel design in college, which I began in the Fall of 2022. My body of work reflects my broad range of interest and aesthetic proclivities. Presently, my sewing work is focused on crafting garments for classes and fashion shows hosted by the student organization Threads, of which I am Co-President and the occasional charitable endeavors or personal projects for myself, friends and loved ones.

I encourage you to take a look around and click on the projects below for more details.
